Life change? No health insurance? No problem!

Even if you missed the enrollment deadline or experienced a life event that changed your health insurance needs, you could still qualify for coverage.

Here's the good news: During a Special Enrollment Period (SEP), you can sign up for a health plan outside the regular enrollment window. This SEP is your safety net for major life events like getting married, having a baby, or moving to a new area.

These events, and others, can make you eligible for an SEP. This means you can get the health coverage you need during important transitions. Not all scenarios qualify, though. Write to us and we can help you figure out your specific situation: healthinsurance@holadoctor.net

How does it work?

If you qualify for an SEP under the Affordable Care Act (ACA), you can enroll in a plan or change your existing one. You might even qualify for Medicaid or CHIP (Children's Health Insurance Program).

Here are some common reasons you might qualify for an SEP:

  • Job change: Lost your job (and the health insurance you had through your employer)? You might qualify for an SEP
  • Medicaid: Did your income or situation change, and you lost Medicaid or CHIP coverage? An SEP can help you get a Marketplace plan.
  • Family changes: Getting married, having a baby (or adopting), or losing coverage due to a life change (divorce, death of a spouse, etc.) could make you eligible.
  • Moving: Relocating? You might have new health plan options and an SEP to choose one.
  • Immigration status change: Becoming a U.S. citizen or legal resident could open an SEP for you.
  •  You are no longer under 31 years old: New Jersey has a law that allows some young adults to stay on their parent's employer-sponsored health insurance plan until age 31, but there are conditions.

Remember:

It is important to note that specific documentation or proof may be required to qualify for a special enrollment period. If you qualify for an SEP, you generally have up to 60 days to enroll in a plan after the event. You must wait until the next Open Enrollment Period to apply if you miss that window. But if you lost or changed your job and lost your employer's health insurance, you may have 30 days to enroll in a new plan within SEP.

Don't wait! Check whether you qualify for an SEP and get the health coverage you deserve.
