It affects more than 3 million people in the US alone, although it is thought that nearly half of patients do not know they have it. When drainage is blocked and the fluid cannot get out, it builds up and causes increased pressure in the eye. The two main types of glaucoma are open-angle glaucoma (the most common type) and closed-angle glaucoma.
